Sobriety Calculator

Method

How this calculator works

Total days sober = today's date − sobriety date, measured in whole days. The result is also expressed as a years, months, and days breakdown, and compared against standard milestones (30, 60, 90, 180, 365 days and each year after).

  1. Select the date you became sober using the date picker.
  2. The tool compares that date to today's date.
  3. It calculates the total number of days sober and a years/months/days breakdown.
  4. It then shows your next milestone and how many days remain until you reach it.

Examples

Worked examples

Real numbers, end-to-end results.

Quit date 90 days ago

= 90 days sober

The breakdown would show about 2 months and 28–30 days, and the next milestone would be 180 days.

Quit date exactly 1 year ago

= 365 days sober

That reads as 1 year, 0 months, 0 days; the next milestone becomes 2 years.

Quit date 400 days ago

= 400 days sober

Roughly 1 year, 1 month; the next milestone is the 2-year mark.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How does the sobriety calculator work?
Enter the date you became sober and the tool compares it to today's date, counting the total number of days between them. It also breaks the time down into years, months, and days.
What counts as day one?
Your sobriety or quit date is day zero, and the following day is typically counted as day one. This tool reports the total elapsed days since your chosen date.
What are common sobriety milestones?
Popular milestones include 30, 60, 90, and 180 days, then one year, and every year after that. Many recovery programs celebrate these markers to help maintain motivation.
Can I enter a future date?
No. Sobriety is measured backward from today, so a future date is invalid. If you enter one, the calculator will ask you to choose today or a past date instead.
Does the day count reset if I miss a day?
This tool simply counts days from the date you enter. If you have a setback, many people in recovery reset their date and start counting again, focusing on progress rather than perfection.
