FAQ
Frequently asked questions about percentage marks
How do I calculate percentage from marks?
Divide marks obtained by total marks, then multiply by 100. Formula: (Marks Obtained ÷ Total Marks) × 100. For example, if you scored 450 out of 600, your percentage is (450 ÷ 600) × 100 = 75%.
What percentage is required to pass?
Pass percentage varies by institution. In India, CBSE requires 33% to pass. Most universities require 35–40% minimum. This calculator defaults to 33% but you can customize the passing threshold.
How to convert marks to GPA?
For CBSE 10-point scale: divide percentage by 9.5 (approximate). For 4.0 scale: 90–100% = 4.0, 80–89% = 3.0–3.9, 70–79% = 2.0–2.9, 60–69% = 1.0–1.9, below 60% = 0. Each system has its own conversion rules.
What is a good percentage in board exams?
In India, 90%+ is considered outstanding, 75–89% is very good, 60–74% is good, and 50–59% is average. For competitive admissions, 85%+ is typically desired. The perception varies by country and institution.
How is CGPA calculated from percentage?
For CBSE: CGPA = Percentage ÷ 9.5. For VTU: CGPA = (Percentage - 4) ÷ 10. For most universities: CGPA = Percentage ÷ (Max CGPA scale × factor). Reverse: Percentage = CGPA × 9.5 (CBSE system).
