Morse Code Translator
Method
How this calculator works
Each character maps to a fixed sequence of dots (.) and dashes (-). Letters within a word are separated by a single space, and words are separated by ' / '. Decoding reverses the lookup: split on ' / ' for words, then on spaces for letters.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How does the Morse Code Translator work?
Choose a mode, type your input, and the tool maps each character to its Morse equivalent (or the reverse). Letters are separated by a single space and words by a forward slash (/).
What separates words in Morse code?
In our encoder, individual letters are separated by a single space and whole words are separated by ' / ' (space, slash, space). This standard spacing keeps decoding unambiguous.
Which punctuation marks are supported?
The translator supports a full punctuation set including period, comma, question mark, apostrophe, exclamation mark, slash, parentheses, ampersand, colon, semicolon, equals, plus, minus, underscore, quotation mark, dollar sign, and at sign.
Is Morse code case sensitive?
No. Morse code has no concept of upper or lower case, so the translator converts all input to uppercase before encoding. Decoded output is returned in uppercase.
What happens if I enter an unsupported character?
Characters that have no Morse equivalent are skipped during encoding. When decoding, any Morse token that does not match a known pattern is shown as a question mark placeholder.
