Internet Speed Calculator

Find out how much internet bandwidth you actually need based on your connected devices and daily activities.

Select your devices and activities, then click Calculate

How is this calculated?
Bandwidth per activity (Mbps):
  Email/Browsing: 1 Mbps
  Social Media: 3 Mbps
  HD Streaming: 5 Mbps
  4K Streaming: 25 Mbps
  Gaming: 10 Mbps
  Video Calls: 8 Mbps

Total = Sum of (activity bandwidth) × concurrent device factor
Concurrent factor = min(devices, max_simultaneous) × 0.7
Headroom: Add 20% buffer for overhead

Plan Tiers:
Basic (25 Mbps): 1-2 devices, light use
Standard (100 Mbps): 3-5 devices, mixed use
Premium (300 Mbps): 5-10 devices, heavy use
Gigabit (1000 Mbps): 10+ devices, power user

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about internet speed

How much internet speed do I need?
For a single user browsing and email, 25 Mbps is sufficient. Streaming HD needs 5-10 Mbps per device. 4K streaming requires 25 Mbps. Gaming needs 25-50 Mbps. A household with 4+ devices streaming simultaneously should aim for 100-200 Mbps.
What's the difference between download and upload speed?
Download speed determines how fast you receive data (streaming, browsing). Upload speed affects sending data (video calls, uploading files). Most plans offer asymmetric speeds with faster downloads. Fiber plans often offer symmetric speeds.
Does more devices mean I need faster internet?
Yes. Each connected device shares your total bandwidth. If you have 100 Mbps and 10 devices active, each effectively gets about 10 Mbps on average. Our calculator factors in simultaneous usage across all devices.
Why is my internet slower than what I'm paying for?
Common reasons: Wi-Fi interference, distance from router, network congestion during peak hours, old router hardware, too many connected devices, or ISP throttling. Wired ethernet connections are typically faster than Wi-Fi.
What internet speed do I need for gaming?
Online gaming itself only needs 3-6 Mbps, but low latency (ping) matters more. For downloading games (50-100 GB), faster speeds help significantly. Streaming while gaming needs extra bandwidth. Aim for 50+ Mbps for a good gaming experience.
Is 5G faster than home internet?
5G can offer 100-1000+ Mbps download speeds, comparable to or exceeding many home broadband connections. However, 5G speeds vary greatly by location, signal strength, and network congestion. Fixed 5G home internet typically delivers 100-300 Mbps.
