How this calculator works

NPS corpus grows via compounding. At age 60, the rules mandate a 60/40 split between tax-free lumpsum and taxable annuity.

  1. Enter the monthly amount you plan to invest in NPS.
  2. Enter your current age. The calculator will run the compounding until you turn 60.
  3. Enter your expected rate of return based on your equity/debt asset allocation.
  4. See the final corpus, the 60% lumpsum amount, and the estimated monthly pension.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the National Pension System (NPS)?
NPS is a voluntary retirement savings scheme in India designed to enable systematic savings. It allows you to build a retirement corpus by investing in a mix of equity, corporate bonds, and government securities.
What happens when I turn 60?
At age 60, you can withdraw up to 60% of your total accumulated corpus as a tax-free lumpsum. The remaining 40% MUST be used to purchase an annuity (a regular monthly pension plan) from an insurance provider.
Can I withdraw before age 60?
Yes, but it is highly restricted. Partial withdrawals are allowed for specific purposes (like children's education or buying a house) after 3 years. If you exit entirely before 60, you must put 80% of the corpus into an annuity.
