How this calculator works

GST is a percentage-based tax. For exclusive: add the tax on top. For inclusive: divide by (1 + rate) to separate the base price from the tax component.

Exclusive: GST = Amount × Rate/100
           Total = Amount + GST

Inclusive: Net = Amount ÷ (1 + Rate/100)
           GST = Amount − Net

CGST = GST ÷ 2 | SGST = GST ÷ 2
  1. Enter the amount (product or service price).
  2. Select or enter the GST rate (5%, 12%, 18%, 28%, or custom).
  3. Choose whether the amount is GST exclusive or inclusive.
  4. The calculator computes net price, GST amount, and gross price.
  5. CGST and SGST split is shown for intra-state transactions.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is GST?
GST (Goods and Services Tax) is an indirect tax levied on the supply of goods and services. It replaced multiple indirect taxes like VAT, excise, and service tax with a single unified tax.
What are the GST slab rates?
India has four main GST slabs: 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%. Essential items attract 0% or 5%, standard goods 12–18%, and luxury or sin goods 28%. Some items also have a compensation cess.
What is the difference between CGST and SGST?
For intra-state transactions, GST is split equally into CGST (Central) and SGST (State). For inter-state transactions, IGST (Integrated GST) applies at the full rate.
What does GST inclusive vs exclusive mean?
GST exclusive means the price does not include tax — GST will be added on top. GST inclusive means the price already contains tax — you need to extract the tax component from the total.
How is GST calculated on an invoice?
GST exclusive: Tax = Price × Rate. Total = Price + Tax. GST inclusive: Net Price = Total ÷ (1 + Rate). Tax = Total − Net Price.
Who needs to pay GST?
Any business with annual turnover exceeding ₹20 lakh (₹10 lakh for special category states) must register and collect GST. The end consumer ultimately bears the tax cost.
